Services

I provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy to persons of all ages. Regardless of the modality of treatment, my practice is grounded in a client-centered approach and can incorporate expressive art therapies on your journey to wellness. I will assist you in identifying your strengths and goals, and implementing a plan, tailored to your needs, to reach your goals.

Services, treatment approaches, specialties, insurance and fees are described below.

Treatment Approaches

There is no one size fits all when it comes to counseling.

Together we will explore treatment options, including expressive art therapies that will help you heal.

CBT

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. The goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind client difficulties and thus change the way they feel. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events.  An important benefit of CBT is assisting clients to identify and change their unhelpful thinking and behavior that lead to enduring improvement in their mood and functioning.

Parenting Support

Being a parent is both rewarding and challenging. Parents are not only tasked with tending to the

day-to-day needs of their child but also with having to learn how to understand their child’s personality, strengths, and weaknesses to help nurture them to learn and grow. It is a daunting job that can overwhelm anyone of us at any time! Whether you are facing the challenges of being a new parent or navigating the often stormy seas of adolescence, I would like to help your family thrive.

Grief and Loss

Grief is a natural and normal response to coping with a major loss—not just death—but divorce, job loss, moving, loss of a friendship, retirement and more.  Everyone experiences grief differently.  Some common responses to grief include a sense of numbness, inability to concentrate, changes in eating and sleeping patterns, isolating, and more.  I provide grief counseling to assist you through the mourning process, respectful of your pace, and in a safe and caring space.

Sand Play Therapy

Sand Play therapy is a powerful therapeutic intervention that supports the psyches natural tendency to heal itself.  Using sand, water, and objects,

Sand Play allows both children and adults the opportunity to portray, rather than verbalize, feelings and experiences often inaccessible and/or too difficult

to express in words. It provides a medium of self-discovery through the use of symbolic images and creativity and allows individuals to tap into pre-verbal experiences and long forgotten memories of the conscious mind.

Children and Adolescents

Children often find it difficult or do not have a fully developed emotional language to express feelings of sadness, low self-esteem, loneliness, grief, and academic and peer pressure.  I have a special interest in working with young people and as such, have a room dedicated to creating a safe space where they can explore their feelings and challenges.   Children under the age of 18 require parental consent for treatment. Treatment is usually more effective if your child has some privacy. I will provide you with a general overview of each session along with your child’s level of participation and progress.  In the best interest of the child, I strongly encourage parents to support and be actively involved their child’s treatment.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that can be used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders, phobias, performance anxiety, sexual and physical abuse, chronic pain and much more.  It enables people

to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  Multiple studies show that EMDR can provide clients the

benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make

a difference. EMDR therapy has a direct effect on the

way the brain processes information. After EMDR, a person no longer feels "trapped." The memories won't

be changed, but they will feel much less upsetting.

Mid-life Transition

Crisis or opportunity?  Many persons experience challenges unique to the aging process during midlife, between their 30’s-60’s. For some, this sparks a crisis, and they may begin to feel hopeless, frustrated, or anxious, which may strain relationships with friends, family, and partners. Therapy can help people learn to accept the aging process and possibly even embrace the gifts of maturity—wisdom, peace, and a sense of accomplishment. Greater self-awareness and self-compassion can help one transition into midlife. Recognizing individual strengths and accomplishments are important factors in making peace with the aging process. I believe it is possible to retain a youthful spirit, a sense of wonder and adventure, and to create opportunities to find and build new meaning, no matter what age an individual attains.

Crime Victims

Some traumas do more than injure us; they violate our sense of safety, security, and stability. Victims of crime often wonder if the world can ever feel safe again. Anger, confusion, anxiety, sleep disturbance are just some of the stress reactions that crime victims experience in the aftermath of the crime. The trauma of crime victimization goes beyond physical and psychological injury: It often robs one of their faith in mankind.  Also challenging is gaining an understanding the legal process following the crime.  I have worked with crime victims, and with the Victims Witness Program to assist clients in managing their emotions following crime victimization, as well as advocating for them throughout the legal process.

LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy
LGBTQ Affirmative therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that embraces a positive view of
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) identities and rela
tionships and addresses the  negative influences that homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism have on the lives of LGBTQ clients.

Being affirmative means I treat lov
ing persons, couples, families, and transgender people with  dignity, respect, and affirmation. They are fine just the way they are.

No Surprises Act/ Good Faith Estimate Notice

Under the new “No Surprises Act law,” you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost for non-emergency items or services

Under the law, healthcare providers are required to give patients who don’t have health insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • The Good Faith Estimate must be provided in writing one day before the onset of treatment. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate at any time during treatment

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may dispute the bill. More information is available at: https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

This means you will not receive surprise bills after the fact, and that you have a right to know what all services will cost up front. My fees are listed above. It is not possible to know in advance how many sessions you may need. Treatment frequency is determined by several variables, including diagnosis and/or presenting concerns, interventions used, and most importantly, your need for support and your ability to engage in treatment. You will be involved every step of the way in your treatment. In short, you can estimate your costs by multiplying the number of sessions you plan to attend by your session cost.
